Extracts from Grasshopper Island fan-mail (2000–2024)

... I love it! Came across it by accident in our library ...I was praising it the other day, saying how much my daughters loved it – its innocence and sense of adventure. And it’s so calming to watch things like this these days – everything is all rushed and hyped up now, poor kids! My neighbour’s 4 year old will adore it.
I remember watching the TV show with fond memories, and now that I have my own daughter I would like to start her on the adventure…
I saw Grasshopper Island as a boy and adored it. Was entranced by it, in fact. And though I can remember only a few of its elements now, the feeling of it, truly, has never left me. I’m very grateful…
I recently bought the DVD for my 10 year old, who I’m delighted to say loves it as much as I remember doing.
Grasshopper Island has, over the years, come back into my mind less as a TV series and more, I now feel, of a wish I had as a child (and probably still do as an adult) of being able to find a place of peace, enjoyment and beauty. A place of safety and magic. An ideal… It is no exaggeration to say that Grasshopper Island vastly improved my life. Thank you.
Wow! I’ve been trying for years to find this movie. I remember it from a summer holiday when I was a child and it’s stayed with me all this time!
Thanks for all your fantastic work. Taught us kids (now 40 years old and parents ourselves) about love and magic. Ever so grateful. I know many people feel the same…
Rapturous joy! My wife and I have fondest memories of this series and want to share it with our 5 year old daughter…
I saw Grasshopper Island only once during the Xmas holidays. I must have been about 8 or 9. I watched the whole thing again for the first time in about 27 years yesterday. Funny how I remembered lots of stuff, great show! My wife is pregnant and it will be one of the first shows our kid will love I hope…
A copy of Grasshopper Island arrived today from UK. Our daughter was immediately captivated. This is a great story and brought back wonderful memories for us. It was probably the source of our desire to live on an island ourselves one day...
The dreamy idyll that Grasshopper Island portrayed now seems indistinguishable from that of my own long-gone childhood. I was obsessed by the series, as I recall, in the same way I was by Dr Who and other escapist entertainments made primarily for kids. But this one had a different frisson, it was set in a foreign country, with cypresses and crickets and that kind of sun that you just don’t see in England and which exerts a strange fascination upon us as a result…
I must have seen Grasshopper Island in 1973, when I was 11 years old. Meanwhile I am after all four times as old, seeing it from a slightly different angle (amongst other things I am a music teacher), but at the most I appreciate it even more than I did in the past. Adventure! “Escapism”! (in a positive way!) - something that lets children DREAM and inspires their imagination in a very direct way and without horrendous technical complexity! Simply marvellous!
As a child I watched this series and I enjoyed it very much. Now I have a five year old daughter and I want to show her Grasshopper Island…
Yesterday I got a wonderful gift: a DVD from the tv-show “Grasshopper Island”. I started watching the same evening and could not stop - it was a travel into my childhood... I watched it the first time when I was 9 years old and then never again. But I never forgot. Thank you for this wonderful timeless story which brought so much joy into my life; in the past and now again! There is still a dreaming boy in me…
Hello from Down Under, I bought a copy of Grasshopper Island and love watching it over and over. My brothers and I would pretend to live on our own deserted island and being the middle child I was always Toughy. I always thought that I would find and live on the Island too, of course I now know it was filmed in Corsica. I will continue to watch and enjoy Grasshopper Island for many years to come…
A long belated thanks for the series which I enjoyed as a young teen back in Australia in the early 70’s. I would very much like to see how my nephews would take to Grasshopper Island…
For the record Grasshopper Island was aired on channel 2 ABC during the Chrismas holidays. It was on around lunch time and I remember my mates and I being glued to the tele everyday at that time. Then we’d go outside and and pretend to be the boys on the island , which wasn’t too hard to do because where we live is all bushland on a river…
remember this fabulous series and would like to obtain it ... Many people in Germany wish they could see the series again so I posted my email on a webpage about old TV series and received a lot of mails concerning Grasshopper Island...
For all of us approaching the age of ‘40’ Grasshopper Island is something which universally evokes the distant magic of our childhood memories and is timelessly locked into our sub consciousness. I am grateful that I have been lucky enough to find your website via a web search on ‘Grasshopper Island’ and that my brother and his children will be able to enjoy this very beautiful film over the festive period…
Nothing of the magic is lost, although I watch the movie very often. A timeless treasure…
